Bank Holiday Travel: Llandudno & Betws Y Coed

I was over in rainy Flintshire for work on Sunday and after a night of relaxing  in a hotel with no puppy and a 12 o’clock checkout, I  felt ready to face the world! With a right hunger on we casually popped 4o miles down the road to Llandudno, where the sun was cracking its flags and the ocean a calm crystal blue, to get breakfast (more like lunch).

Popping to our favourite Llandudno cafe, Barnacles which does awesome GF, V and vegan food – it was a lasagne and chips for me followed by a shot of vitamin C. And then vitamin Sea.

Llandudno holds a bank holiday fun fair equipped with rides for all ages and sizes and whilst we didn’t fancy throwing up our lunch, we did enjoy the summer vibe it had going on. Still not warm enough to take the big coat off but my fish netted legs didn’t mind a slight warm breeze!

I really like Llandudno. I used to think it had a residential vibe to it but the more I go, the more I see it’s culturally diverse.

We took a stroll on the peer, remember how much warmer and attractive it was compared to our January visit and we popped by the doughnut stall. I say we. It was I who waited in a line of 20 for sugary goodness whilst Rik went hat shopping for a granddad cap… Don’t ask!

Bidding Llandudno goodbye, we took the Betws Y Coed route home for a quick stop off at (our favourite) the only place we’ve tasted so far, ever, to produce real hot chocolate. None of this powdery stuff with additives… We think it’s properly ground cocoa beans because it sure tastes like it.

Cadwaladers is the name of the coffee and ice cream shop…. You Must GO!

We visited the small set of rapids that go under Betws Y Coed and read some information about local walks. Whilst I’ve not done much around these parts, I hear it’s a haven for all things outdoors. Someone messaged me on Twitter the other day asking me what there was to do and I could only suggest Swallow Falls and passed on the walking in Betws Y Coed website.

Some tour guide I am… I do endeavour to change that!

Nothing too adventurous this weekend as a complete chill was needed -house hunting is taking its toll that’s for sure. Sometimes you just need to stop you know? Warning nudity below…
